Life Sharing through Family Living is an option available to individuals with developmental disabilities who want to live as part of another family. They learn to take care of themselves, become more independent in a close personal setting and become integrated into their community as well.
Family means being cared for and caring about others. Keystone’s Family Living Program provides a home for persons with mental retardation and offers them an opportunity to build a relationship with a family.
Family can be anyone of any race or gender, a single adult, couples, a single parent household, a two parent household, or “empty nesters.” What matters in the family living program is relationship. Family living offers a person with special needs consistency, stability and an opportunity to experience quality of life.
Participating host families maintain a contractual relationship with Keystone Community Resources, Inc. Family Living Program. This relationship includes a tax-free monthly stipend in exchange for the support and care you offer the individual with disabilities.
In addition to the financial compensation, though, provider families reap many other rewards, including life-long relationships. Immediate family members, extended family members, neighbors and friends gain deeper insights and acceptance of challenged individuals. This lasting encounter has a positive, transforming effect on everyone involved!
Keystone Community Resources, Inc. offers ongoing information and consultation services to host families. Staff is available 24 hours a day, should a question or concern arise as well as in the case of an emergency. Respite care can be provided if needed.
Keystone also provides training in first aid, safety and home health care, as well as emotional support to the host family.
